DENTAL SURGERY

Austin Baker, DDS.

Austin BakerI grew up just up the road in Dubois, WY where I graduated from Dubois High School. I attended Boise State University as well as Idaho State University where I obtained my bachelor’s degrees. The University of Nebraska Medical Center is where attended dental school. I received special recognition from the UNMC College of Dentistry for my abilities in crown, bridge and denture work. Much of my time in dental school was spent learning state of the art techniques and technologies that are gaining popularity in the ever-developing field of dentistry. Following my dental training, my wife, my three boys and I have had the opportunity to come back to the Cowboy State. From the day I decided to go to dental school it has been a dream of mine to be a dentist here in Wyoming. Ultimately, I am excited for the opportunity to be back among the people I grew up with. I am eager to serve the people of this great state and help them with their oral health which translates to an improvement in their overall health. Here at Aspen Ridge Dental we are dedicated to making the patient experience the best it can be and I am honored to have a part in delivering that experience.

Benjamin R. Emery, DDS

Benjamin EmeryLove where you live. Love what you do. This is the motto by which I live life. I love what I do because every day I get to inspire and help people achieve their optimal health. It just so happens that I practice dentistry.

My wife and I moved to Casper in 2009. We love Wyoming. We love the people, the culture, the open spaces, the seasons and the blue sky. So much so that we wanted our two kids to grow up in Wyoming. I love competing in challenging athletic events such as long distance trail runs, intense mountain biking races as well as multidisciplinary events such as the Casper Strong.

I love helping people reach their optimal health goals. Dentistry is the perfect avenue in which to achieve this. All too often people wait too long to see a dentist due to fear of being judged or due to their perception of hopelessness. What I love most about helping these people is showing them compassion and empathy and giving them options on how to treat their condition. Listening and understanding their needs is the platform on which I operate.

If you’re not moving forward, you’re moving backward. This is especially true in dentistry, where research supported improvements are constantly emerging. I feel that it is my professional obligation to my patients to provide the best treatment modalities available at that time. This means that I am dedicated to lifelong learning through continuing education. Did you know that the State of Wyoming requires zero (0) hours of education for a dentist to renew his license? Because I believe in lifelong learning, I dedicate at least 80-100 hours of education every year. Doing good in the community is fundamental as a health care professional. I am passionately involved with Smiles for Life (a nationwide charity geared towards underprivileged children), Smiles for Kids (a local organization focused on orthodontic care for children), Give Kids a Smile (Community Health Center of Central Wyoming), Health Care for the Homeless, Crown Council organized, dentistry- based humanitarian work in the Dominican Republic, T-19 and Medicaid programs.

Roy Paulson, DDS

Roy PaulsonDr. Paulson has been a board-certified pediatric dentist for over 37 years. He attended Northeast Louisiana State University for his undergraduate degree before pursuing his Doctor of Dental Surgery at Louisiana State University. He also served a residency in pediatric dentistry at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. Before moving to Casper in 1986, Dr. Paulson served as the Chief of Staff of dental services at the Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock.

Casper is Dr. Paulson’s adopted hometown. He has served the community in many volunteer roles over the years, including the Give Kids a Smile Free dentistry program, the Wyoming Medicaid Dental Committee, Head Start Health Services Advisory Committee, and the Natrona County Board of Health. He has also served on the Board of Directors for the Boys and Girls Club of Central WY, Casper Youth Baseball, Delta Dental of Wyoming, and the Wyoming Symphony Orchestra.

Dr. P (as he is affectionately referred to around CCDC) is a Southern boy by birth. He is originally from Hot Springs, Arkansas and is a huge Razorback fan. He is married with two sons, 4 stepchildren, and one grandchild (still wanting more). His hobbies outside of dentistry include baseball, golf, reading, exercising, and biking. When asked what was interesting about him, Dr. P quickly responded, “My Southern Drawl.”

Ryne Paulson, DDS

Ryne PaulsonDr. Ryne was born in Little Rock, AR but calls Casper his home. He has been practicing dentistry for six years. He achieved his undergraduate Biology degree from the University of Wyoming while also playing golf for the Cowboys. He earned his doctorate of dental surgery from Creighton University in Omaha, NE. After dental school, Dr. Ryne gained much “aloha” serving a two-year residency working on “keiki” throughout the islands of Hawaii.

His favorite part of the job is the challenge and hilarity of trying to get kids to do something they don’t want to do! Working with kids definitely keeps his sense of humor sharp.

Dr. Ryne and his wife Makayla have 4 children: Jacob (9), Greyson (4), Penny (just out the oven), and Boudreaux (49 dog years). Dr. Ryne and his family enjoy playing sports, staying active, camping, and enjoying Wyoming’s great outdoors. Dr. Ryne grew up on Alcova Lake and is quite the water skier. When he’s not spending time with his family Dr. Ryne enjoys hunting, golfing, spending time at the gym, and being with friends.

Denise Prugh, DDS

Denise PrughI grew up in Casper having attended Manor Heights, East Junior High and Kelly Walsh High School. I started working in my father’s dental office when I was 13 and decided when I was 17 to become a dentist.

My college education began at Cottey College and then I finished my Bachelors of Science in Biochemistry at the University of Wyoming. For dental school I attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln.

After practicing for three years in Casper as a general dentist I decided to return to school for further training. I was accepted to a residency program at UCLA where I specialized in both pediatric dentistry and orthodontics. After completing this 3 ½ year residency I returned to Casper to start my practice. I have been practicing for 15 years and I am the only dentist in Wyoming with that is dual trained in both pediatric dentistry and orthodontics.

Dentistry doesn’t have to be scary. Surfin’ Smiles is all about making healthy smiles in a fun environment. The benefit of our practice is the extra years of training that enable us to help the very young, those with special needs and children with medical concerns that can be overwhelming.

What I love most about my career is working with very young children and seeing them grow into adulthood. From the first baby tooth to creating beautiful smiles orthodontically that last a lifetime, our office is a fun dental home for the children of Casper and surrounding cities.

I have been married for 22 years and have two boys that keep me running to musical and sports activities. As a family we enjoy spending time at Alcova lake in the summer doing all water sports , especially surfing and wakeboarding. In the winter downhill and nordic skiing are our favorites.

Casper is such an awesome community for families and I feel so lucky to get to spend time with so many great kids and their parents!

Stuart Youmans, DDS

Stuart YoumansI was raised in Casper, Wyoming and graduated from Natrona County High School. I gained my Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Wyoming in Laramie and my D.D.S. from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. Training includes a one year general practice residency at the VA hospital in Omaha, Nebraska with special emphasis in oral and maxillofacial surgery and trauma. I moved back to Casper with my wife Melissa in 1998 and we started Aspen Ridge Dental. In 2004, we opened our new state of the art facility where we are able to focus on providing unparalleled oral health care for Central Wyoming.

My special interests of dentistry revolve around implantology and the oral surgery aspects of dentistry. With well over 1,500 dental implants placed and restored, I have become a leader in the community in this discipline and I’m one of a very few dentists that not only places, but restores dental implants. Other areas of interest in the field of dentistry for me are the treatment of complex full mouth reconstructions, TMJ disorders and diagnosis, and adult/child handicap hospital based dentistry. It is with great pride that I have privileges and operate out of the Casper Surgical Center and Wyoming Medical Center on a regular basis on these special needs patients. I take great pride in the extensive continuing education that I complete on a yearly basis to stay current with the ever changing practice of dentistry.
My personal life is fulfilled with love of faith and family. Melissa and I have three beautiful children, two daughters and one son. I have always enjoyed the outdoors with hunting and fishing as well as being an accomplished pilot holding a private and instrument rating. It is my goal to live life to the fullest never taking a single day for granted. It is with this mindset that I so much enjoy my family and my practice equally.
